Wie wir mit Maschinen sprechen

Prof. Dr. Christa Dürscheid, Deutsches Seminar, UZH
Lecture in German

The robot Pepper gives us information in the mall, we ask Siri for the next pizzeria, and service robots are used in nursing: What are the characteristic features of communication with machines? What are the differences between this type of interaction and human-to-human communication? How do we perceive such interactions? Is one artificial, the other natural? In this talk, these and other questions around human-machine communication will be addressed from a linguistic perspective, and different contexts of use will be presented in which the dialogic ability of machines plays an important role. This will be done in two steps: Initially, dialogues with speech assistants will be considered, then the focus will be on interaction with humanoid robots.
